Batman Existed in Mesoamerican Mythology

As social media is abuzz with who might be cast in the next Batman movie, with concerns that some of the candidates might not be menacing enough to fill those big black boots, it might be time to look again at one of the bat figures that featured as an imposing power in Mesoamerican mythology – Camazotz.

Camazotz, (meaning ‘death bat’ in the Kʼiche’ Mayan language of Guatemala) originated deep in Mesoamerican mythology as a dangerous cave-dwelling bat creature. A cult following for the creature began amongst the Zapotec Indians of Oaxaca, Mexico and the figure was later adopted into the pantheon of the Maya Quiche tribe and the legends of the bat god were later recorded in Maya literature.

Bats are considered to be menacing creatures in many cultures. They are nocturnal and thus associated with the night, which is also often associated with death. Many common species also have a relatively bizarre appearance, which makes them all the more off-putting for humans. It doesn’t help that there is a species that actually sucks blood (the vampire bat, Desmodus Rotundus ).

“Nascondete soldi sotto il letto”

Accumulare “contanti in piccoli tagli” per le emergenze anche sotto il materasso: Sembra una prassi di altri tempi e invece è quella che la moderna Svezia consiglia suoi cittadini.

L’Agenzia nazionale per le emergenze civili ha pubblicato una guida per ogni famiglia su cosa fare in caso di emergenze. Il timore più grande per le autorità è che le reti informatiche possano essere interrotte da attacchi terroristici o dalla guerra informatica e hanno espresso la forte preoccupazione che gli svedesi possano vedersi negato l’accesso informatico alle banche del paese….

….l’avvertimento che lancia oggi l’Agenzia svedese per le emergenze civili potrebbe far scattare l’allarme in tutto il mondo, visto che le nazioni sviluppate stanno attuando il passaggio ad una società senza contanti. Quali sono queste situazioni di emergenza individuate dal governo svedese?

C’è un po’ di tutto, dalle interruzioni di corrente elettrica, al black out delle reti informatiche, fino al terrorismo e alla guerra informatica. Da qui il governo svedese raccomanda che ogni cittadino tenga i soldi sotto il letto.

IVECO M250 Military trucks

The IVECO M250 is an Italian series of tactical military trucks. These trucks are branded ASTRA for domestic market while the M250 is its export designation. This military truck is in service with Italy. It seems that deliveries to the Italian Army commenced in 2003. These tactical trucks fulfill logistic roles both for frontline and rear echelon units. These military vehicles have been exported to Belgium and Spain. It is worth mentioning, that Spanish trucks are badged as IVECO-Pegaso.

   The IVECO M250 series trucks are available with various wheelbase lengths. Payload capacity also varies depending on the version. The M250.45WM has a payload capacity of 8 000 kg. It can also tow trailers or artillery pieces. The baseline version is a cargo/troop carrier. This military truck is fitted with a standard drop side cargo body, with bows and tarpaulin cover. Also it can accept a variety of other bodies. Specialized versions are available, such as artillery tractor, dump truck, load handling system and tractor truck which hauls Centauro fire support vehicles.

   The IVECO M250 series trucks are fitted with a purpose-designed military cabs. The cab has sleeper berths. It accommodates driver and up to three passengers. Cabs of the Belgian trucks are protected against landmines. An add-on armor kit, which features internally-mounted replacement panels, can be installed. It provides protection against small arms fire and artillery shell splinters.

   Belgian trucks are powered by IVECO Cursor 13 turbocharged diesel engine, developing 450 hp. Another engine model, developing 400 hp is available. A number of automotive components are from IVECO EuroTrakker range of commercial trucks. Vehicle has a full-time all-wheel drive and is fitted with a central tyre inflation system.

   The M250 military trucks can be airlifted by the C-130 Hercules tactical airlifter after a short preparation.   IVECO also produced the M170 4×4 and M320 8×8 versions. There is a 66% commonality of components across the range of these tactical military trucks.

ON FIRE….

On fire…
No one had tears for the social rights burnt in globalization, nobody murmurs a prayer for human values ​​trampled and mocked; no one has anger for the Europe of fanciful finance, for false progress and the cancer of poverty that has returned to bite even in Europe. Perhaps a church can be rebuilt, the dignity not, in a Europe that suffocates Justice in the name of an inconsistent and non-existent “unity”.
Thus I find no tears for art if it is no longer the pride of the people; I find no tears for the sacred lands turned into a fair by merchants ready to sell the soul to ignorant buyers of the ephemeral.
The churches burn … while the future and the hopes of the people go up in smoke.
We have already betrayed history, lost wisdom and culture.
A fire is not the sign of God or the revenge of anyone … it is only the image of the fragility of beautiful things and a warning to take care of our future ….. maybe we are still in time!

A fuoco…

A fuoco…

Nessuno ha avuto lacrime per i diritti sociali bruciati nella globalizzazione, nessuno mormora una preghiera per i valori umani calpestati e derisi; nessuno ha rabbia per l’Europa della finanza fantasiosa, per il falso progresso e il cancro della povertà che è tornato a  mordere anche in Europa. Forse una chiesa si potrà ricostruire, la dignità no, in una Europa che soffoca la Giustizia in nome di una “unità” inconsistente e inesistente.

Così non trovo lacrime per l’arte se non è  più orgoglio dei popoli; non trovo lacrime per le sacre terre trasformate in fiera da mercanti pronti a vendere l’anima a ignoranti compratori dell’effimero.

Le chiese bruciano…mentre il futuro e le speranze dei popoli vanno in fumo.

Abbiamo già tradito la storia, smarrite la saggezza e la cultura.

Un rogo non è il segno di Dio o la vendetta di chicchessia…è solo l’immagine della fragilità delle cose belle e un monito a prendere cura del nostro futuro…..forse siamo ancora in tempo!
