It must be said that the Italian car industry has certainly experienced periods of great prosperity, years in which Fiat above all, but behind it also Alfa Romeo, Lancia, Autobianchi and other brands, sold and exported with a certain continuity . But which Italian models have sold the most in the peninsula and abroad?

FIAT 124

The best-selling Italian car model in the world is, according to estimates, the Fiat 124. Exactly: not the 500, not the 126 or 127, but a rather successful model, rather contained at home, which, however, has literally depopulated the abroad, remaining in production until 2012: it is estimated that the 124 (or derivative models) sold worldwide are in fact almost 20 million, a disproportionate figure.

In Italy, the 126 was produced in about 1 million and 350 thousand specimens throughout the 1970s, until 1979; but greater was the success abroad, where it was produced and marketed in slightly different settings and also provided the inspiration for completely new cars, such as the Seat 133 and its Argentinian counterpart Fiat Concord. But it was above all the FSM 126, produced in Poland, to meet a resounding success: up to 2000 more than 3 million specimens were produced, which made it the most popular car in the country in the years of the transition from communism to the economy of market.

FIAT Panda

Fiat Panda, a historical model of the Turin-based company that, between old and new versions, has sold more than 6 and a half million cars worldwide, a number that is still destined to grow as the updated Panda is still in production.

 

FIAT UNO

Immediately behind the unreachable Fiat 124, the best-selling Italian model of every era is the Fiat Uno, marketed in Italy from 1983 to 1995 but then distributed all over the world, for an estimated total of 9 million and 500 thousand copies sold. Designed once again by Giugiaro and initially conceived by Gian Mario Rossignolo for the Lancia, the Uno was to be the “increased” heir of the 127 and immediately met with great success, thanks also to a great promotional campaign.

Not too far from the Fiat Uno figures are also the data of the Fiat Punto, the most recent of the cars that have managed to enter this ranking. Even in this case, in fact, there is a good 8.7 million units sold before the start of the third series of the car, which took place in 2005: a success due to the beautiful initial line designed once again by Giorgetto Giugiaro and to the good reliability ( also in terms of safety), capable of bringing Fiat to sell a million and a half cars in the first year and a half of marketing.

The second series, completely revised in the line, was launched in 1999, still having great success, while the third incarnation is dated 2005, with the introduction of the Grande Punto, the model that marked the revival of Fiat after a period of difficulty also because it was produced together with General Motors, which used the platform for some of its models destined for the European market.

VESPA Piaggio EVOLUTION

In April 1946, this amazing new, functional and innovative mode of transport was presented to the general public for the first time in a Golf Club in Rome. The shield was embossed with a new logo which replaced the previous Piaggio Aircraft emblem. Vespa was an immediate success and gained extensive media interest as well as public curiosity, surprise and even skepticism.

Nell’aprile del 1946, questo straordinario mezzo di trasporto nuovo, funzionale e innovativo fu presentato per la prima volta al grande pubblico in un Golf Club a Roma. Lo scudo era in rilievo con un nuovo logo che sostituiva il precedente emblema degli aerei Piaggio. Vespa è stata un successo immediato e ha suscitato grande interesse da parte dei media, nonché curiosità pubblica, sorpresa e persino scetticismo.

Siamo un paese veramente strano.

Votiamo dei referendum e restiamo indifferenti allorché, mortificando la nostra volontà, un qualunque governo, senza distinzione di colore politico e con atteggiamento sprezzante, si arroga il diritto di ignorare completamente le nostre decisioni. (1) Nella nostra anormalità, definiamo “rivoluzione” un avvenimento che tale non è; definiamo “liberazione” un genocidio ed usiamo due metri diversi per definire “eroi” dei traditori e “traditori” degli eroi. Abbiamo perso veramente il senso della misura e della realtà. Cerchiamo di dimostrare l’assurdità di questo comportamento e la conseguente veridicità circa la perdita del senso della realtà….

Nobili origini. Nel 1969, quando il mondo intero camminava a testa in su, nei capannoni della piccola fabbrica di Bresso, alla periferia nord di Milano, negli stessi luoghi dove oggi sorgono vivaci poli culturali, prendeva vita una berlina a due porte e quattro posti con caratteristiche sportive che non avrà molta fortuna commerciale (sarà prodotta in 317 esemplari), ma che potrà sempre rivendicare le nobili origini del suo progetto. Tra i padri putativi della sportiva milanese figurano illustri nomi del gotha dell’automobile, come Marcello Gandini e Nuccio Bertone e più tardi, per la versione Sport, anche di Giotto Bizzarrini.

Quando sarà finita….

Ogni indugio, ogni ritardo, ogni dibattito superfluo e ogni hashtag frettoloso hanno causato dei morti… Perché nel corso di un’epidemia le esitazioni hanno un prezzo in vittime: il costo orario più atroce al quale siamo mai stati sottoposti.

C’è una frase di Marguerite Duras che l’insistenza sulla guerra mi ha ricordato. È un paradosso e dice così: «Già s’intravede la pace. È come un grande buio che cala. È l’inizio dell’oblio». Dopo una guerra tutti si affrettano a dimenticare, ma qualcosa di simile accade con la malattia: la sofferenza ci pone in contatto con verità altrimenti offuscate, mette in ordine le priorità e sembra ridare volume al presente, ma non appena la guarigione sopraggiunge quelle illuminazioni evaporano. Adesso ci troviamo nel mezzo di una malattia planetaria. La pandemia sta passando la nostra civiltà ai raggi X ed emergono verità che svaniranno al suo termine. A meno che non decidiamo di appuntarle subito. Nell’assillo dell’emergenza, che da sola è sufficiente a riempirci la testa — di numeri, di testimonianze, di tweet, di decreti, di moltissima paura — dobbiamo quindi scavarci uno spazio per dei ragionamenti diversi, per osare domande grandiose che trenta giorni fa ci avrebbero fatto sorridere per la loro ingenuità: quando sarà finita, vorremo davvero replicare un mondo identico a quello di prima?

Subì le stesse critiche che oggi si contestano ai magistrati più esposti. Dovremmo fare in modo che, se rinascesse, Falcone non si ritrovasse in quelle stesse condizioni. Ma ho motivo di temere che oggi, con la gerarchia del nuovo ordinamento, Falcone non potrebbe neppure essere quello che è stato. Questo dobbiamo dire e fare, se vogliamo rimanere distanti dall’ipocrisia di certe commemorazioni ufficiali, alle quali oramai alcuni di noi preferiscono non andare più“, ha concluso Sebastiano Ardita che è esponente di Autonomia e Indipendenza.
