Silver medal

Euro 2020, the silver medal rejected by the British. A scandal? No, an established practice in sport.

In the last season, the English club teams that finished second in European competitions have accustomed us to this unsportsmanlike practice. But the removal of the silver medal is a phenomenon that has also affected Italian players and teams.

 

When the England captain was asked after the match whether the silver medal was a success or a missed opportunity, the Tottenham forward replied: “Definitely a missed opportunity.” Coach Gareth Southgate, on the other hand, was among the few to hold the medal proudly around his neck. To be fair, the gesture of Kane, Shaw, Foden, Grealish, Mount, Phillips, Stones, Rashford and his companions is not an isolated case in the history of football finals. Indeed, it seems that it is an increasingly popular trend. A couple of months ago, some Manchester City players, after losing the Champions League final to Chelsea, took away the second place medal right after receiving it. Same thing for the Manchester United athletes, defeated by Villarreal on penalties in the Europa League final. Still remaining across the Channel, but speaking of an oval ball, the English rugby players, in 2019, chose not to wear the silver medal after losing the World Cup final against South Africa

Even Italian football is not exempt from this unsportsmanlike practice. Going back to 2013, in the final of the Italian Cup between Rome and Lazio won by the biancocelesti 0-1, the images of Francesco Totti and his companions are impressed with each other removing the silver medal with a funeral face. Alessandro Florenzi, who was Romanist at the time, also took away his prize. Yesterday, at Wembley, the only veteran of that derby eight years ago, he would have had no reason to do so. Aiuta i malati, i deboli, i vulnerabili e, soprattutto, non dimenticare mai che un giorno lasceremo il palcoscenico.

A flexible, thin strip wraps around the tip of a finger and collects sweat.

Scientists have come up with a device that harvests sweat from your fingertip to generate power — and you don’t even need to lift a finger to make it work. In fact, it can do its thing as you sit still or even sleep.

The flexible, thin strip wraps around the tip of a finger like a Band-Aid and converts chemicals found in human sweat into small amounts of electrical energy. Fingers constantly produce sweat, so the device can work without the wearer moving a muscle.

“By using the sweat on the fingertip — which flows out naturally regardless of where you are or what you’re doing — this technology provides a net gain in energy with no effort from the user,” said Joseph Wang, a professor of nanoengineering at UC San Diego and co-author of a paper describing the product, published in the journal Joule.

DOPO 20 ANNI DI GUERRA

Oltre mille soldati dell’esercito afghano sono fuggiti nel vicino Tagikistan per mettersi in salvo dopo uno scontro armato con i talebani nel nord. Il Comitato per la sicurezza nazionale di Dushanbe ha fatto sapere che “1.037” soldati delle forze armate governative afghane hanno varcato il confine “per salvare le loro vite” dopo combattimenti notturni con i talebani, che hanno intensificato la loro offensiva nel nord e nel resto dell’Afghanistan contestualmente al ritiro delle truppe americane e straniere dopo 20 anni di guerra.

Decine di membri delle forze speciali afghane che avevano dichiarato la resa sono stati giustiziati a sangue freddo dai talebani al grido di ‘Allahu Akhbar’. E’ quanto mostrano alcuni video ottenuti dalla Cnn in merito ad un sanguinoso episodio di omicidi sommari che sono avvenuti il ;;16 giugno nella città di Dawlat Abad, vicino al confine con il Turkmenistan.

In un video risuonano le parole “arrendetevi”, e diversi uomini emergono da un edificio, disarmati. I talebani però sparano lo stesso e almeno una dozzina di uomini rimane uccisa. La Croce Rossa ha poi confermato che sono stati recuperati i corpi di 22 soldati. (ANSA).

Quanto vale la vittoria in euro?

La vittoria della Nazionale di calcio italiana a Euro 2020 farà bene all’economia.

Il giorno dopo la finale a Wembley iniziano a circolare le prime stime sull’impatto del trionfo degli Azzurri sull’economia italiana.

A snocciolare le prime previsioni è il presidente della Figc, Gabriele Gravina:

“Il calcio e la Nazionale concorrono a fare il nostro Paese più credibile, stimato, inclusivo e ricco: tutte le maggiori ricerche stimano l’impatto della grande vittoria di ieri nello 0,7% del Pil” ha detto parlando al premier Mario Draghi che ha ricevuto gli azzurri campioni d’Europa a Palazzo Chigi.  “Gli azzurri rappresentano un esempio positivo, un messaggio di bellezza che fa bene all’Italia, in termini di passione e fiducia per il futuro, ma anche economici: la vittoria, attraverso bel gioco e identità ben definita, è un incentivo a dare sempre il meglio di noi stessi in ogni settore”.
